A look inside the student apartment of: Sabrina Jahan
A lot of Student Experience apartments are the same in size and construction. Yet their interior design can be very different. Practical and cozy or minimal and modern, with second-hand items or everything bought new. In this rubric, we will have a look inside a home of a Student Experience resident every month. Just because it is fun to have a look inside, but also to get inspired. This month we were allowed to look inside 20-year old law student Sabrina Jahan’s apartment. She lives in a big apartment on the 2nd floor in Nautique Living.
Sabrina is studying for a bachelor in tax law and is also learning Arabic. “I wanted to learn a new language and the UVA provides that possibility.” Via a friend she learned about Student Experience. “She told me that I had the chance of getting an apartment with Student Experience without being wait-listed. That proved to be true, after 2 days I already got an apartment and I was invited for the intake.”
Before Sabrina moved to Nautique Living, she lived with her parents. “You can always ask the location manager for help, there is always someone around to help you. That is really nice since it is the first time you’re living on your own.” Sabrina has been living in Amsterdam for over a year now. What she likes most about living in Nautique Living? “The safety, the building radiates and looks like a hotel. You have your own kitchen and bathroom, but for social contact, you just go downstairs, to your neighbors. It is like living on your own, but still experiencing the student life.”
Sabrina would describe her interior style as “cute, fuzzy, girly and classic.” She got most of her furniture at IKEA and the Bazaar in Beverwijk. Before moving in she already saved up all her pots and pans. She purchased the loft bed and sofa bed for the apartment. With the loft bed, she saves a lot of space. Her favorite lamp she bought online at Modemusthaves.
She attaches the most value to her make-up table, which she scored on Marktplaats: “Because I’m a big fan of baroque. And because it cost me a lot of trouble to pick it up and move it here, but it was more than worth it. It looks amazing here and I sit behind it every day. My room is my palace and I sit there like a princess”. When Sabrina isn’t sitting behind her makeup table, her favorite place to be in her rocking chair, reading a book.
During a free night at home, Sabrina likes to experiment with vegan cooking. She bought 3 books that contain recipes from different countries. When she’s in the city she likes to go to Pllek or events on the NDSM terrain. She also likes going to the Jordaan and the Vondelpark.
For fellow residents or future neighbors, Sabrina has a few tips: “Get a loft bed and place a couch or table underneath it. This saves a lot of space allowing you to create a sports or reading corner.” Another tip she gives is to get a telescopic clothing rack: “You only need 3 poles, with a suspension system that allows you to decide how wide and high you want your rack. By adding baskets you create more space.”
