Entrepreneur of the month: Timothy Nahr
A lot of residents at Student Experience are also entrepreneurs in the most diverse markets next to being students. A good example is the sustainable entrepreneur Timothy Nahr with his foundation "University of Laif".
Residents of Student Experience can meet the foundation University of Laif during the Sustainability afternoon on the 28th of November, organized in the lounge by Timothy himself!
Timothy is studying a master in Business & Sustainability at the Erasmus university, he's also started a master in Finance at the VU this year. He has already completed a master in Accountancy and a bachelor in Business Economics. “Right now I’m trying to create synergy between all the gained knowledge”. Timothy wants to refine his knowledge about the private sector for the sometimes slowly innovating non-profitsector in a foundation form. “I want to create an added value for society, that is why I started a master in Sustainability”. After his studies he wants to be an “impact investor”, he wants to invest in project that create value on financial, social and environmental aspects.
When Timothy was 16 years old he was scouted to play football in the Netherlands. “I was offered this opportunity by a foundation in Curacao. Because this opportunity meant a lot for my personal development I want to do something in return for the island and the children.” Thanks to the knowledge he gained with his studies he can put his plan to work. His foundation “University of Laif” has been registered since the summer. “Because of a money price that I won with a thesis reward I was able to invest in a notarial act. ‘Life’ is purely breathing in and out, ‘Laif’ is living with a little more purpose.”
Timothy has been active with his foundation for one and a half year. “My mission is to make living sustainable normal. A lot of people think about recycling and climate change when they hear the word ‘sustainability’, that does not matter, but it is so much more than that. Sustainability is an action you take, that doesn’t only create a win situation for yourself but also positively impacts others.”
As one of the few entrepreneurs Timothy doesn’t have a target audience “I believe sustainability impacts everyone”. In the future he would like to have different departments in his foundation that work with different sub-groups “The foundation will remain for everyone”. At the moment Timothy gives small workshops to give people more affinity with sustainability. He hopes to achieve that people will use this knowledge in their own specialization and sector, with the goal of creating an exponential growth in the supply chain.
Timothy stands for transparency and integrity. He wants to run his foundation in a social entrepreneurship. Between now and 6 months he hopes to be collaborating with businesses to better position their sustainable products. His vision is to achieve all 17 world goals set by the UN before 2030. He will be really satisfied when people will start to see sustainability as something normal. “The goal of University of Laif is to create an ecosystem that will serve as a first step to speed up sustainable awareness and activities.”
